About
Candy Hearts is a free digital zine composed of artists, writers, and other fans of the pairing Nuo Nuo x Luo Li from the donghua series To Be Hero X (凸变英雄X). Inspired by teen magazines, we hope to capture the youthful love of these two incredible women through illustrations, articles, and various games packaged into a sweet treat just in time for Valentine's Day!

What is a zine?
A zine is a collection of fan art, writing, merch, and other miscellaneous fan content focused on a particular theme, character, or series.
What is the theme of this zine?
This zine will be a teen mag-inspired collection of art, writing, and games centered around the pairing of Nuo Nuo x Luo Li from To Be Hero X!
What is the rating of this zine?
This will be an SFW zine, but all applicants should be at least 18 when applying.
What format will the zine be?
This zine will be a digital zine made available to everyone for free. We aim to release the zine by Valentine's Day, 2027.
How many contributors will be accepted?
As we're currently in our application period, the exact number is yet to be determined. However, we aim for around 10-20 artists (split between page and spot art), 6-12 writers (split between fics and articles), and 4-8 alternative creators (split between those interested in creating minigames and other areas like recipes, music, crochet, cosplay, etc.)
Do I need zine experience to apply?
Not at all! We hope this will serve as a fun opportunity for all fans of NuoLi and won't be looking for previous zine experience in applicants.
Do I need to have TBHX content to apply?
You do not need to have To Be Hero X content already to apply. Just send us your best works and ideas so we may get a feel for your style and interests.
What are contributors expected to create?
Page Artists will be expected to create at least 1 page or 1 spread of fully rendered art.Writers will be expected to create 1 short fiction story and/or 1 article of their choice in style, which will be in communication with mods and artists, if applicable. Word counts will be roughly 2,000-5,000 words for fics, and 500-3,000 words for articles.Spot Artists will be expected to provide small illustrations and/or other various character art for writers' pieces, minigame pages, or other miscellaneous areas within the zine.Minigame Creators will be expected to create at least 1 game and provide an accompanying answer key, if applicable.Alternative creators' expectations will be determined after gauging the types of media they will bring to the zine.
Can someone who doesn't make art/fic join?
Yes! If you would like to create a piece in a medium other than fanart/fanfic, you may apply for a minigame creator role or as an alternative creator (chef, crafts, cosplay, music, etc.) and send us samples of your work accordingly in the application form.
Can I apply for multiple roles?
Yes! Please be aware that you may only be accepted into one role, however.
I don't have a large following, can I still join?
Yes! Anyone has the potential to join, regardless of their follower count. We will only be looking at the samples and enthusiasm provided in your application.
Is traditional art allowed?
Of course! Traditional pieces must be scanned in high quality. We recommend doing so at 600 dpi or higher.
Are collaborations allowed?
Yes! We'd love to have any and all collaborations between contributors. Note that collaborations can only be decided after contributors are accepted into the zine.
Are other characters/ships allowed?
Other characters may be included, especially those involved in Luo Li's arc, but should not be the main focus. Nuo Nuo and Luo Li should be the main ship in your piece.
Are original characters (OCs) allowed?
Original characters will be allowed solely as background characters in a piece, but not the focus.
May I submit an older piece to be included in the zine?
No. You will be expected to create a new piece for the zine.
